2019 Nyah Project Fellow Honored by City of Miami Beach Mayor & Seventh Generation

On September 19, 2019 City of Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber awarded John Paul Mejia, a 2019 Nyah Project Fellow the 2019 Youth Under 18 Involved in Community Hispanic Heritage Award for his “civic engagement and activism as a youth leader.”

What’s more, John Paul was also profiled by international sustainable brand Seventh Generation:

John Paul played a leading role in activating students for the September 20, 2019 School Out Climate Strike Miami Beach support by Engage Miami and the CLEO Institute, where he currently volunteers. In addition, John Paul led a school walkout for Climate Change joined by 300 students, teachers, and administrators in May 2018. John Paul participated in the 2019 Nyah fellowship in Bali, Indonesia and is currently a Senior at Miami Beach High School where he serves as President of the STEAM and Ecology Clubs.
