The Challenge: Women are more likely to experience all forms of harassment (sexual, verbal, physical) and discrimination in public, primary in Indonesia.
SDGs Addressed: SDG 5: Gender Equality
The Solution: One of our primary solutions is to create a program, center, hotline and space where women could share their experiences, report any incident, learn how to protect themselves and find refuge. As well as, educating our young men by having graduation requirement school seminars every year which will include live testimonies from women who have dealt with these issues. While adult men have to pay mandatory fines if caught in these acts and engage in required work seminars in order to get bonus and certifications.
The Reason: When deciding which organization to choose or topic to cover, we all had a common interest in wanting to base it on gender equality and women's rights. The challenge on gender equality from the Stella's Child organization stood out to us because it appealed to empowering women while also educating men which is not commonly seen. All people play a critical role in trying to end any type of harassment women may face, it is not a female issue but an everyone issue.
