Meet Mojo: 2020 Artist-in-Residence
Introducing Nyah Project Studio
Anthony Reed II, better known in the art community as 'Mojo,' is a professional Visual Artist. He is the inaugural Artist-In-Residence for Nyah Project Studio. This new offering provides a unique opportunity for underrepresented artists to receive a transformational leadership and cultural immersion experience in conjunction with Nyah Project’s signature global fellowship program.
“Growing up in North County St. Louis, MO was no easy task,” Mojo explains his artistic motivation:
“The unfortunate events that have happened throughout our history has led me to create art and a platform of positivity, peace and prosperity. I vowed to ONLY create work that impacts communities and neighborhoods of all people and beliefs, raise awareness for justice and peace, inspire people who desire freedom, empower my peers and lead a faith filled life.”
Nyah Project founder, Leigh-Ann Buchanan, explains: “the vision behind Studio is simple: artists have always served as a cultural conscience. Their work plays a pivotal role in shifting narratives of how we ought to see the world for the better. The beauty, resilience, enterprising and innovative communities the Nyah Fellows are exposed to each year, particularly on the African continent, are not always reflected accurately in mainstream perceptions and media. It is our hope that these embedded experiences will inspire new bodies of work that de-stigmatize our partner communities abroad”.
