Global Youth Leadership Fellowship: Morocco

JULY 2-14, 2024

We are thrilled to travel to Morocco with our Nyah Fellows this summer and hope you can help us make it a truly transformative and memorable experience for all.

The Basics

  • Nyah Project is a U.S.-based 501(c)(3) that not-for-profit organization clears the pathway to college for underrepresented students by providing training and tech based tools that remove the practical and systemic barriers to higher education.

  • The Global Youth Leadership Fellowship (GYLF) is Nyah Project’s signature 14-month experiential leadership development and college coaching program for high potential youth leaders (typically ages 15-18) from underserved communities in South Florida. It is our most competitive program in which we select up to 12 underrepresented high school students each year to become Nyah Fellows.

Our Fellows boast a 100% college matriculation rate and 98% have won scholarships, totaling over $30 million since 2014.

To maximize a Fellow’s potential and success in college, community, and beyond, the 14-month fellowship consists of:

    • a summer leadership retreat,

    • a two-week international travel component to Africa or Asia,

    • professional mentorship matching,

    • talent development coaching and

    • individualized support.

All associated costs are graciously covered by sponsors, donors, and grants, so the program is 100% free for students to participate in.

  • Each year, through a multi-stage, competitive process, we select a talented cohort of underrepresented high school tudents from South Florida as Nyah Project Fellows.

Nyah Fellows receive intensive college coaching and training in entrepreneurial leadership through experiential learning seminars in domestic and international destinations, including Morocco, Costa Rica, South Africa, Ghana, Indonesia and Namibia - at no cost to them.

    Nyah Fellows identify as:

    • 99% BIPOC

    • 95% from low-to-moderate income populations

    • 44% are first generation students

    • 10% are LGBTQIA+

    • Between the ages of 16-19 at the time of international travel

  • We seek to expose Nyah Fellows to unique and transformative personal leadership development opportunities via cultural exchange and interaction. Thus, our GYLF’s international travel component consists of:

    1) Masterclasses - Meetings with leaders from prominent civic and professional organizations or institutions to understand their personal leadership journey.

    2) Impact Days - Service-based experiential learning to foster mutual learning opportunities and intercultural exchange. Done in partnership with local schools or community-based organizations. These activities are aligned with UNESCO and OECD global education competency standards.

    3) Leadership Labs - Leadership development workshops led by Nyah Project facilitators.

    4) Cultural Immersion - Unique cultural exchange opportunities to better understand the history, culture, and people of our host country.

  • We have a delegation of 17 people, including 13 students, 1 peer facilitator, and 3 adult facilitators.

  • We will be in Morocco from July 3-14, 2024.
